Shetland Springs in the can

“Such a great day – playing the old tunes with old friends” Catriona Macdonald

On Tuesday (20 April) we headed off to The Traverse theatre to meet our Shetland fiddlers, Catriona Macdonald, Chris Stout, Margaret Robertson and Ross Couper. We had a magical day of tunes and laughs, all captured on camera by our brilliant filming team Sandy Butler, Adam Bulley and Douglas Robertson.

With long term Soundhouse sound engineer Craig Gaskin recording at the desk we had an awe-inspiring tour of some of Shetland’s oldest tunes together with the stories behind them.

At time of writing Sandy is busy editing the show and the music is in the mix with Barry Reid up in Muir of Ord. We can’t wait to see it!

The show will be ‘broadcast’ from 8pm on Friday 30 April, which, by lucky chance, is the 40th anniversary to the day of the first ever Shetland Folk Festival. Please celebrate with us and our friends in Shetland by tuning in on Friday at 8. Though we should say that the show will be available to stream for the duration of the festival (just remember to buy your ticket by Monday 10 May at 8pm).
