Call for submissions – Edinburgh Tradfest Special Commission 2023
The Edinburgh Tradfest Special Commission is always a highlight of the festival and this year we are opening it out to you.
This is an opportunity for Scotland-based musicians/composers to put together a special show celebrating an aspect of Scottish Traditional music that is close to their heart. For example at previous Edinburgh Tradfests we have celebrated:
Female tradition bearers
Via What A Voice by Kathleen MacInnes, Fiona Hunter & Kaela Rowan (2019)
The Shetland fiddle tradition
Via Shetland Springs by Catriona Macdonald (2021)
The influence of ‘New Scots’ on our traditional music scene
Via Come All Ye by Phil Alexander (2022)
HOW TO APPLY
Please send your idea (up to 500 words) and how you would present it (include make up of band with personnel involved if possible). And if writing is not your thing please send us some notes and we can follow up with a zoom chat.
The length of the show should be around one hour and all the musicians should be Scotland-based. The date of the show will be Monday 1 May 2023 and will be part of Edinburgh Tradfest. There is a budget to pay musicians for rehearsal and performance and you for your work devising and producing the show.
