Savourna Stevenson and Steve Kettley

“Instrumental storytelling with a special intuitive magic of its own” The Scotsman

Clarsach virtuoso and acclaimed composer Savourna Stevenson has joined forces with old friend and saxophonist Steve Kettley in a duo showcasing her compositions – a blend of haunting melodies, pulsating rhythms and stirring improvisations.

As a performer Savourna has been in the vanguard of the renaissance of the celtic harp, collaborating with traditional artists including Aly Bain, Danny Thompson, Davy Spillane, June Tabor and Eddi Reader. Musical experimentation across a variety of genres led to more collaborations with artists such as African Kora player Toumani Diabate, the Bhundu Boys (Zimbabwe), Iranian percussionists The Chemiranis and many more at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios and WOMAD festivals.

Steve Kettley leads several groups playing his original music (you may have seen him in Pygmies and Trio Velcro), plus Orange Claw Hammer, interpreting the music of avant-rock legend Captain Beefheart. He also performs regularly with former Scottish national poet Liz Lochhead.

The duo debuted at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where they were well-received by critics and received a four star review in the Scotsman newspaper.

After a barnstorming set at our fundraiser in the Queen’s Hall in November, we are delighted to be hosting them at Tradfest.
