LAUREN MACCOLL: HALF A LIFETIME
“Haar might be Lauren MacColl’s most accomplished and rewarding work to date, an ambitious album of painterly beauty on which the sadness of experience is offset by the constant awareness of the world’s wonders and complexities.” –KLOF Mag
It's 20 years since Lauren MacColl – a wide-eyed 19 year old fiddler from the Scottish Highlands – was crowned the winner of the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award. It was to be a springboard for a varied couple of decades, founding both fiddle quartet RANT and song-trio Salt House, and collaborating with countless singers and instrumentalists.
The thread through it all has been no less than five solo releases to date, showcasing her rich, darkly-toned fiddle sound and increasingly, her own writing.
For this very special Edinburgh Tradfest gig she’s joined by Rachel Newton (harp), Anna Massie (guitar), Mhairi Hall (piano), Mairearad Green (accordion) and James Lindsay (bass) to play tunes from her most recent album Haar, along with a delve into the back catalogue.
