WHAT A VOICE – Kathleen MacInnes | Fiona Hunter | Kaela Rowan
“Kathleen MacInnes has a voice like peat smoke and good whisky, as robust, sassy and soulful as it is supple and expressive.” – Kate Molleson, The Guardian
“Hunter’s strengths lie in a vocal tone that she varies to suit the mood of the song while always sounding like the real deal and her ability to project a genuine empathy with the characters she’s singing about.” – Rob Adams, The Herald
“The mellow lull of Kaela’s vocal is a tonic for the soul” – Neil McFadyen, Folk Radio
An exclusive show put together just for Tradfest, What A Voice celebrates the female tradition-bearers who have been inspiring musicians and delighting audiences down the years.
Come and spend the evening in the company of three of Scotland’s most engaging and accomplished singers – Kathleen MacInnes, Fiona Hunter and Kaela Rowan – as they choose their favourite songs from the women who influenced them.
These inspiring women include Nan Mackinnon of Vatersey, Ishbel MacCaskill of Lewis, the Stewarts of Perthshire, Cathy Ann MacPhee from Barra and Lizzie Higgins of Aberdeen.
Kathleen, Fiona and Kaela will be joined on stage by the What A Voice band: Mike Vass (fiddle, guitar), Mhairi Hall (piano), Emma Smith (bass) and James Mackintosh (percussion).
